Momoko had come home from work today and spent a few minutes tidying before finally sitting down to the latest volume of the Posey Trilogy. She'd been looking forward to it for so long!

So how she fell asleep RIGHT when Posey is about to talk to Etta about the feelings she had for the new boy, she totally had no clue. Nor did she know why she dreamt she was running around town trying to escape streets that were on fire.

When she finally woke up, it was late... too late to go visit Priestly, as much as she wanted to...

"Ah ah!" Momoko sighed as she sat up and stretched, gazing in the direction of the phone.

"It's been all day
That I haven't heard your voice
Or looked in your eyes
It's when I spend time with you
everything's okay

It's been so long
Since you were by my side
And just to see you, right there, smiling
That's what's been on my mind

I wanna see you right now, na na
Be with you right now, na na
Wish you could fly here right now, na na
We need to link up right now, na na"

Uhmmm. She blushed and covered her mouth. "Well, that totally could have been worse. At least it was a catchy tune?" Momoko heated up some leftovers, humming, and wondering if it really was too late to call someone.

[Open if you want it! If not, she's got a book!]

Priestly's chat with Kitty had put him in a much better mood, and he'd barely made it back to his apartment before curfew. He was still a little tipsy, too, and sometime after he flopped over on his bed, he realized that he hadn't just almost missed curfew, he'd almost missed his nightly call to Momoko.

It totally wasn't a drunk dial. Completely not. He just happened to have had some alcohol tonight and was now calling his girlfriend with very little concept of what time it was.

Momoko stared at the phone a moment, then totally didn't dive across the room for it. Really.

"Akatsutsumi residence." Yes, she knew who she wanted it to be, but there was a possibility it wasn't him. "Hello?"

Priestly cleared his throat and affected a really terrible British accent. "'Ello, I would like to speak to you about your long distance service."

What? He thought he was funny.

Blink blink

EH?! A telemarketer? This late? Talk about evil running rampant

"Uhm." Momoko twirled the phone cord around her finger. "My service?"

Priestly snickered softly. "Yes. How satisfied are you with your current coverage?"

He would kick himself for this later.

Not very, she purred. I'm a bit too covered.

"Ah. It's okay? I can call everyone I need to?" She frowned slightly. "When it's not this late."

"Oh crap, it's late?" Priestly asked, dropping character. "Er, I mean -- 'would you recommend your coverage to a friend or relation?'"

give it another beat...

And then Momoko sank to the floor, giggling and clutching the phone to her ear. "Priestly!" she chided, all smiles. "You're so mean! It's totally late, but it's okay."

"Hi!" Priestly said doofily. "But you're laughing, so I'm not too mean, right?"

She could almost hear the smile in his voice, and Momoko closed her eyes to picture that goofy grin of his. "No, of course not. You sound happy; did something good happen today?"

"Mmmm." Well, he'd helped patch up Savannah, then had actual alcohol and joked about evil people singing about pink fluffy things with Kitty. Not that he could tell Momoko about either of those. "There was singing," he said instead. "Seemed like a good excuse for a lazy day at home."

"Aww, I missed you singing?"

"Repeatedly," Priestly admitted. That was probably a good thing, though. They hadn't been happy songs. "What about you, did you get musical today, or were you one of the lucky few?"

"I was doing totally fine all day and then it hit me when I got home." She blushed lightly, remembering it had been about him. "It was all over the office today, though. like a concert, only not always in key."

"Yep, sounds about right." Lord knew he hadn't always managed to keep to a key. Some of those songs were not in his range. "What'd you sing about?" he asked, unable to keep from being curious. Maybe it would reveal a crack in the curse's armor.

"Uhm. You promise not to laugh?"

"Of cooooooooooourse," Priestly assured her. "I bet I sang way worse, today."

"I totally doubt it. I like your voice!" She blushed, but grinned. "I sang about how I missed seeing you today, talking to you."

Okay, not so much with the helpful, but -- "Awwwwwww. I missed you, too."

Even when she was actually around, he missed her.

She leaned into the phone for a moment, smiling.

"I wanted to come over, maybe have dinner? But I fell asleep reading." Momoko wondered for a moment if she should also tell him about her weird dream, but then decided it was to silly to retell. "When I woke up, it was really too late to go out. Or at least to go out and come back home."

"You know you're always welcome to sleep here."

A beat.

"I could take the couch."

Yes, that almost actually hurt to say.

But it felt really awesome to hear!

"I couldn't make you do that!" Momoko's smile was totally in her voice. "And anyway, how would I explain it? And I'd have to go to work in the same clothes."

... But then she sighed, looked around a moment, and lowered her voice. "But it's a nice thought? To be able to spend that much time together. And if I have a bad dream, you could make me some fresh cocoa." The packets tasted terrible when you've had the real thing, but they still helped her get back to sleep.

"I'd be glad to." The buzz of the alcohol was wearing off, and Priestly was swinging into his now more normal melancholy. "You know I would, Momoko." Aaaaaaand now there was music playing.

"You don't want to hurt me,
But see how deep the bullet lies.
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder.
Ooh, there is thunder in our hearts.

Is there so much hate for the ones we love?
Tell me, we both matter, don't we?
You, it's you and me.
It's you and me won't be unhappy.

If I only could,
I'd make a deal with God,
And I'd get him to swap our places,
Be running up that road,
Be running up that hill,
Be running up that building,
Say, if I only could, oh...

C'mon, baby, c'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience.

Momoko was quiet, trying not to cry. Priestly's song... she got so many things from it.

Short steps, deep breath
Everything is alright
Chin up, I can't
Step into the spotlight
She said, "I'm sad,"
Somehow without any words
I just stood there
Searching for an answer

And despite everything she'd been taught to believe in the past few years, she was okay with all of it.

When this world is no more
The moon is all we'll see
I'll ask you to fly away with me
Until the stars all fall down
They empty from the sky
But I don't mind
If you're with me, then everything's alright

And, because on days like this, the island was just a little bit stronger than magical curses:

Why do my words
Always lose their meaning?
What I feel, what I say
There's such a rift between them
He said, "I can't
Really seem to read you."
I just stood there
Never know what I should do...

"Ah." And finally Momoko could stop herself from singing. "Sorry." She chuckled as she rubbed the tears from her cheeks with her palm. "I totally don't know what that last part meant..."

Priestly swallowed hard. He was pretty sure he knew exactly what that last bit meant. Momoko was going to break his heart, one of these days. "Yeah, 'cause, uh, mine made so much sense."

He hated this. So much. This wasn't how things were supposed to be for either of them.

"At least I got to hear you sing."

"You've never asked me to sing for you. I would, you know. I'm not the best, but I would."

Ah ah. But Momoko was a feeling a bit low on happy, now; she could hear the sadness back in Priestly's voice. He'd been so happy when he'd first called!

As she sometimes was allowed did, she wondered what it was that kept him so far away from her.

If I could touch you,
if it healed your broken smile,
If I could hold you
in my arms
just to stop the hurting
I can hear
In your sweet voice-

don't tell a soul, love,
to de-spell
your lonely heart...
If I could touch you,
I would.

Momoko took a second to check that her window was closed, after singing that, then sighed, leaning into the receiver. "I mean that, you know. I wish you didn't live on the other side of the island." She was totally wanting to touch him right now; despite how much the thought made her twinge and squirm slightly inside, Momoko severely missed hugs.

[OOC: I know I am evil for twisting that song, but it was TOO PERFECT!]

It's not me, Priestly wanted to say. I'm not the one who needs de-spelling!

But she wouldn't understand it, either way. "You do," he lied. "You will." That one, he hoped, wasn't a lie. "I wish you were over here."

"Priestly... Thank you. It means so much, hearing you say that." Momoko took a deep breath, trying to smile again.

Okay. Time for something that wasn't going to make her sadder. "So, what did you have for dinner? Something totally yummy, I bet."
